January 14, 2010 Dear Mr. Johnson,
I am compelled to write you with this unqualified ( and
unsolicited),
endorsement of your (my) Furlboom.
I sail a Sundeer 60 single handed. Your Furlboom makes handling the
large main not only possible but safe and easy. AVALON is rigged
with three electric winches in the cockpit. To reef or furl I simply
adjust
the main topping lift to a slightly up aft position and secure it in
the cam cleat, lead the down haul to one winch and the halyard to
another.
Once the above is done and the downhaul drum brake is released I
slack the halyard, heave on the downhaul using the electric winch
and autotail winch feature. When the area is reduced to what I feel
is safe for the conditions I secure the downhaul, tension the
halyard and release the downhaul drum brake line to engage the
brake.
No reef points, no fixed reef reduction amounts. The whole operation
takes about 5 minutes.
The operation is fast, foolproof and safe. I never leave the cockpit
to
do it, and in 15,000 miles of sailing it has never failed me whether
reefing in a squall or furling to arrive in port.
Thanks and aloha
Scott Robeson
