ADDENDUM I
Furlboom offers sail performance along with ease of operation from the safety of the cockpit, with range of features that exceeds any of its competitors.
SAFETY AND PERFORMANCE:
Furlboom allows for a conventional full cut mainsail, with full battens, with normal luff curve and roach, and it can be fitted to pre-bent masts. Sail performance is equal to a conventional cruising mainsail. It is better then other in-mast and in-boom systems.
Sail-handling effort is decreased. The mainsail can be raised and lowered by one person from the safety of the cockpit at a wide range of wind angles. Continuous reefing can be easily, quickly, and safely accomplished. In the unlikely event of a mechanical failure the mainsail will fall to the deck once the halyard is released like a conventional mainsail.
Furlboom offers an automatic outhaul adjustment, sail flattening control, and progressive sail flattening when reefing to control sail shape and de-power the sail.
The Furlboom is not dramatically heavier than a conventional boom (with a flaked sail on it) and adds minimal weight aloft.
SAIL AND INSTALLATION COSTS:
Furlboom mainsails are less costly to manufacture than a conventional mainsail because they involve less handwork.
A Furlboom installation involves adding luff foils to the back of the mast and mounting a drive box to the back of the mast. The 24" foils are easily attached with two screws and slugs that install in the sail track. The drive box is attached with 10 tapped 5/16" bolts. These installation steps are the simplest and least costly of any in-boom furler. Mast foils can be installed on a stepped or unstepped mast (the latter is simpler and less time consuming).
OTHER FEATURES:
Furlboom has an integrated and fully enclosed sail cover that allows the sail to be covered in seconds.
The Furlboom is constructed using anodized aluminum, stainless steel and bronze components, and Sunbrella fabrics.
Furlboom is tapered for less weight and a more streamlined look.
Furlboom’s claw is internal for appearance and sail shape reasons.
Furlboom utilizes a four cavity reinforced construction for rigidity and strength.
Furlboom requires no modification for use with center boom sheeting.
Furlboom utilizes non-welded construction using aircraft epoxy and concealed fasteners.
There is no shaft through the mast.
There is no equipment installed on the front of the mast to interfere with a spinnaker pole or sheets.
Furlboom has a floating roller feeder system to prevent sail jamming and chafing.
Mast foils are an extension of the mast for appearance and aerodynamic reasons.
Furlboom has a one-piece PVC luff track that facilitates smooth sail movement without lubricants, and prevents the luff tape from coming into contact with the alloy foils.
Furlboom has a forward open boom design and rollers to prevent sail chafing and potential luff buildup and binding, and allows some leeway in the boom angle.
A Manual winch handle furling backup exists.
Furlboom has a locking ratchet system that maintains luff tension without reliance on the furling line.
Furlboom comes standard with an anodized aluminum finish and offers optional finishes.
Furlboom has a 3 year limited warrantee.
